Parish of Somercotes

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN
Monday 20th May 2025

That in accordance with the Local Elections (Parishes and Communities) Rules 1986 and Section 87(2) of the Local Government Act 1972 (England & Wales), the Parish Council of Somercotes is seeking to co-opt a qualifying resident as Parish Councillor for the Parish of Somercotes to serve on Somercotes Parish Council.

Applicants must ensure that they are at least 18 years old, a Commonwealth Citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland or a citizen of another Member State of the European Union and that they meet at least one of the following four qualifications:

  1. Have, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish in which they wish to stand from the day of the application onwards.

  1. They have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the while of the 12 months before the day of the application.

  1. Their main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of the application has been in the parish area.

  1. They have lived in the parish area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of their application.

There are certain people who are disqualified from being co-opted onto a parish council, applicants are encouraged to confirm via the Electoral Commission’s website: Guidance for Candidates at Parish Council Elections in England

All applications must be made using a form available from the Council’s website and office by either e-mail or post to the Parish Clerk, outlining their desire to be co-opted and why they should be co-opted. The deadline for submission of applications is Friday 27th June 2025.
